Clan Forbes is one of the oldest and most distinguished families in the north-east of Scotland, their name and identity rooted in Aberdeenshire and the landscape of the Don valley and its surrounding uplands. The surname is territorial in origin, derived from the lands of Forbes in Aberdeenshire.

From Druminnor Castle the chiefs rose to become Lords Forbes, still the premier Lord of Parliament in Scotland, while William Forbes completed fairytale Craigievar Castle in 1626. The clan’s motto, Grace Me Guide, and its long rivalry with the Gordons run through the history of the north-east.
